Sources

Every item filed from the Inbox keeps its original as a source: the text, the web page’s address, and the file or photo. Sources can’t be changed, so you can always check what an article was built from. They’re encrypted, and only the members of your space can see them.

To open them, select Brain Bank on your dashboard, then Sources.

Find a source

Type words in Search and select Search. It looks in titles, text and addresses. Select Show all sources to go back to every source, newest first.

Open a source

Select its title. The source shows its text, and its web address if it came from a link.

  • To see its file or photo, select Open File. It opens in a new tab.
  • Under Articles built from it, select an article to open it.

You can also reach a source from an article: select it under Sources.

A source without its original

A Global Admin can set the site to keep no original files, or no original text, once an item is filed. A note’s Keep the original box decides for that note. Then the source keeps its title, its web address and the date, and says what it doesn’t have:

  • “The original file wasn’t kept.” There’s no Open File.
  • “The original text wasn’t kept.”

What the curator read from it is in the article. Sources filed before the setting was turned on keep everything.

Who can do this

Every member of the space. A Global Admin can’t see your sources.

If something goes wrong

  • “This source wasn’t found.” It belongs to another space, or the address is wrong.
  • “None now. The articles built from it have been deleted.” A source stays when its articles are deleted.
