Pillars
A pillar is a long-term value or an area of your life that matters most, such as health or family. Each pillar holds its values and long-term goals, the projects that serve it, visualisations to picture it, and an optional reminder to review how it’s tracking. Use pillars to decide where to spend your time next.
To open them, select Workspace on your dashboard, then Pillars. When reviews are due, both cards say how many, such as 1 due.
Add a pillar
- Type the title in New pillar’s title.
- Select Add Pillar.
The new pillar opens.
Write its values and goals
- On the pillar, select its title at the top to open it.
- Write in Values, then select the Long-term goals tab and write there. They’re Markdown: the buttons above each box add bold, headings, lists and more, and Preview shows how it will look.
- Select Save.
You see “Saved.” The text shows under Values and goals.
Add a visualisation
A visualisation is something to picture for this pillar: words, an image, or both. The Daily Review shows them each day.
- Open the visualisations section, such as 2 visualisations.
- If the pillar has visualisations already, select New under the one showing.
- Type words in New visualisation, choose an Image, or both.
- Select Add Visualisation.
You see “Added.” A pillar can have 20 visualisations.
Look through and change visualisations
The visualisations show one at a time, with the place above them, such as “Visualisation 2 of 5”.
- Select ← or → to go to the one before or after. The arrow keys do the same while one of those buttons has focus.
- Select a thumbnail under the visualisation to jump to it. A visualisation that’s only words shows its number.
- Select an image to see it larger. Select Open Full Size to open it in its own tab, or Close to go back.
- Select Move Left or Move Right to change the order. The Daily Review shows them in this order.
- Select Edit to change its words or image, then Save. Select Edit again to close it without saving.
- Select Delete to take it off the pillar.
Set a review reminder
A new pillar reminds you every 14 days. To change that:
- Open the pillar’s header by selecting its title.
- Select the Review tab.
- Type a number of days in Review every (days), such as 30. Leave it empty for no reminder.
- Select Save.
The header says when the review is due, such as “Review due in 14 days” or “Review overdue by 2 days”.
Review a pillar
- Open the reviews section, such as 3 reviews.
- Type how it’s going in How is it tracking?. This is optional. It’s Markdown: the buttons above it write bold, italics, headings, lists and links, and Preview shows how it will look.
- Select Log Review.
You see “Review logged.” The reminder starts again from today, and the review is listed with its date.
Add a project to a pillar
- Open the projects section, such as 2 projects.
- Type the title in New project’s title.
- Select Add Project.
The new project opens, already under this pillar. See Projects.
Think it through as a mind map
Select New Mind Map at the bottom of the page. A mind map named for the pillar opens, already linked to it. See Mind maps.
Put pillars in order
On Pillars, select ↑ or ↓ beside a pillar to move it up or down. The Daily Review follows this order.
Archive a pillar
- Open the pillar’s header by selecting its title.
- Select Archive.
You see “Archived. It’s no longer in the list or the Daily Review.” Its projects and reviews stay. To see archived pillars, select Show archived pillars on Pillars. To bring one back, open it and select Bring Back. Pillars can’t be deleted.
Who can do this
Every member of the space. A Global Admin can’t see your pillars.
If something goes wrong
- “Give the pillar a title.” Type a title, then select Add Pillar again.
- “Give the pillar a title. A review cycle is a whole number of days, from 1 to 3650.” Check Title and Review every (days).
- “Give the visualisation some text or an image.” A visualisation needs one or the other.
- “A pillar can have 20 visualisations at most.” Remove one first.
- “That image is over 20 MB.” Choose a smaller image.
- “That isn’t an image this can show. Use a JPEG, PNG, WebP or HEIC image.”
